That facilitates making big scrolls and bending long forgings. A larger anvil usually has bigger and longer horns which extend out and away from the base/stand. A larger anvil has bigger work surfaces, which can be advantageous for most forgings, but can get in the way of more intricate forgings. A larger anvil has more mass, doesn’t move around or wiggle as much as a smaller anvil.
